Buccaneers Outscore Longhorns in 47th Rice Bowl

The East Chambers Buccaneers and Hamshire Fannett Longhorns took the field at Buccaneer Stadium in Winnie Friday night for the 47th Rice Bowl. The two teams showcased their offense as they combined for a total of 88 points. Hamshire Fannett won the coin toss and received the opening kickoff. On HF first offensive possession, freshman quarterback #6 D’onte Zeno completed a 29-yard pass to #11 Colin Dorsey and a 22-yard pass to #8 Jordan Joiner before having to settle for a 41-yard field goal by #5 Eddie Melendez. The Buccaneers answered on their first offensive possession with a 38 -yard run by # 1 Brayden Guillory followed by a 16-yard touchdown run by #20 Ernest Ceasar. # 14 Sebastian Melchor made the extra point giving the Buccaneers a 7-3 lead with 5:21 left in the first quarter. On the Longhorns second offensive possession #6 D’onte Zeno completed a 38-yard pass to # 14 Austin Baker and # 3 Kheagian Heckaman carried the ball for a 2-yard touchdown. The extra point was good by # 5 Eddie Melendez giving the Longhorns a 10-7 lead. East Chambers second offensive possession included a 16-yard reverse to # 5 KK Morris, a 21-yard QB Keeper by # 10 Jacoby Perrault, and a 6-yard touchdown run by #20 Ernest Ceasar. # 14 Sebastian Melchor made the extra point giving the Bucs a 14-10 lead with 10:22 left in the second quarter. On the Longhorns third offensive possession #6 D’onte Zeno showed off his arm as he connected with #9 Garrett Picou for an 80-yard touchdown pass. # 5 Eddie Melendez kicked through the extra point bringing the score 17-14 HF. On EC’s third offensive possession #10 Jacoby Perrault completed an 18-yard pass to #8 Cooper McKay and # 20 Ernest Ceasar showed his speed with a 34-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good by #14 Sebastian Melchor giving the Bucs a 21-17 lead with 7:41 left in the second quarter. Hamshire Fannett was shut down on their fourth offensive possession as the Bucs defense lead by #44 Slade Parnell and # 72 Payton Martin forced a turnover on downs after a failed fake punt attempt. On the Bucs’ fourth offensive possession, # 10 Jacoby Perrault passed to #5 KK Morris for a 26- yard gain and #1 Brayden Guillory rushed for a touchdown from 6 yards out. #14 Sebastian Melchor made the extra point giving the Bucs a 28-17 lead with 1:44 left in the second quarter. The Longhorns struggles continued on their fifth offensive possession as #6 D’onte Zeno fumbled the ball and East Chambers # 72 Payton Martin scooped up the ball and rumbled 17 yards for the touchdown. #14 Sebastian Melchor made the extra point giving the Bucs a 35-17 lead with 1:27 left in the second quarter. On HF sixth offensive possession # 6 D’onte Zeno connected with #3 Kheagian Heckaman but time ran off the clock before HF could put points on the board before halftime. On the Bucs fifth offensive possession #20 Ernest Ceasar broke loose for a big 48-yard gain then # 1 Brayden Guillory carried the ball for five-yard touchdown. #14 made the extra point giving EC a 42-17 lead with 9:00 minutes left in the third. On HF seventh offensive possession #6 D’onte Zeno connected with #7 Jordan Denson for a 16-yard gain but the drive stalled out after the Buccaneers defense came up with a big stop on fourth down. After several run plays the Buccaneers sixth offensive possession ended when they were forced to punt the ball to HF. The Longhorns eighth offensive possession was led by #30 Tyler Spencer who carried the ball for 23 and 11 yard runs, #3 Kheagian Heckaman added 10, 19 yard runs and 12 yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good bringing the score to 42-23 East Chambers. The Buccaneers answered on their seventh offensive possession with a 16- yard pass from #10 Jacoby Perrault to #8 Cooper McKay that was followed a couple plays later with a 21 yard touchdown run by #1 Brayden Guillory. #14 Sebastian Melchor knocked through the extra point giving EC a 49-23 lead with 7:40 left in the fourth quarter. The Longhorns ninth offensive possession started with 24 -yard pass from #6 D’onte Zeno to #4 Evan Viator then a few plays later #7 Jordan Denson scored on a 2 -yard touchdown run. HF converted the 2-point conversion with a two yard run by #3 Kheagian Heckaman making the score EC 49 HF 31. The Bucs eighth offensive possession ended after # 21 Jelani Fontenot fumbled the ball and HF’s #15 Gavin Deranierri recovered. On the Longhorns tenth offensive possession # 6 D’onte Zeno completed passes to # 11 Collin Dorsey for 13 yards, #9 Garrett Picou for 8 yards, # 9 Garrett Picou for 28 yards before # 7 Jordan Denson ran from two yards out for a touchdown. HF added another successful 2-point conversion with a two yard run from # 3 Kheagian Heckaman making the score EC 49 HF 39. After # 1 Brayden Guillory secured the onside kick attempt by Hamshire Fannett. #10 Jacoby Perrault ended the game with a couple of QB kneels giving the Bucs a 49 to 39 win for a 2-0 record to start the season. The Buccaneers will travel to Lumberton next Friday Sept 18, 2020 to take on the Raiders at 7:30pm.
