Body Found in Hankamer Drainage Ditch

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reported that on Saturday, November 14th, 2020, at approximately 2:23 p.m., Deputies with the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) were dispatched to the 1500 block of Hankamer Loop Road, Chambers County, in reference to a report of a possible deceased person being located near a drainage ditch. Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed that a deceased person was present and had been at this location for an extended period of time. Detectives with the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division were contacted and responded to the scene along with the Crime Scene Unit. Detectives spent several hours processing the scene for evidence. The deceased person has not been identified at this time but is described as a white or Hispanic adult female, believed to be short in stature and possibly heavy set. Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace David Hatfield arrived on scene and ordered an autopsy to be performed. The body was removed from the scene and taken to the Jefferson County Morgue so that a forensic autopsy could be completed, and more evidence collected.  Hawthorne stated, “The cause of death has not been determined but it is clearly a case of foul play homicide and it is being investigated as such.”
