The Chambers County Museum at Wallisville is continuing its monthly series “History and then Some” with a presentation by Houston author and historian Blake Pfeffer last Thursday evening. Pfeffer is author of the book Shouts from the Republic which is described as a brief history of the Republic of Texas and the cost of freedom.
According to Pfeffer, Texas enjoys an almost mythical reputation, known around the world as a bastion of liberty, opportunity, and can-do-spirit. That larger than life reputation came in part from its amazing history. Nowhere is the epic story more fascinating than the first half of the 1800’s, the years of revolution and the Republic of Texas.
As Blake Pfeffer writes, “The heroes of the Republic’s freedom fight shout to us in the present to engage in the process of preserving the institution of Freedom for ourselves and for our children.”
The History and Then Some series is held on the third Thursday of each month from 6p to 7pm. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Call the museum at 409-389-2252 for more information and to reserve a seat.
