Anahuac was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday, October 7th as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against the Kountze Lions, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that’s the third time they’ve come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-0 defeat back in September.
Anahuac was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Kountze work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-16, 25-13.
Anahuac’s offense was headlined by Brecken Wilpitz and Brayli Van Vickle, who picked up three kills apiece. They got some help from Sky Hedges and her eight assists.
Anahuac’s loss dropped their record down to 9-29. As for Kountze, they are on a roll lately: they’ve won seven of their last eight contests. That’s provided a nice bump to their 25-9 record this season.
Anahuac had lost six straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 9-30 to make it seven. They came up short against the East Chambers Buccaneers, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that’s the second time they’ve come up short against the Buccaneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.
Callie Henicke paced Anahuac’s offense, picking up six kills. Henicke got some help from Sky Hedges and her 11 assists.
As for East Chambers, their win ended an eight-match drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-13. The game was the first time they have beaten Anahuac on their court since September 8, 2022.
East Chambers was led to victory by Kyra Perryman and Makayla Montoya. Perryman had 16 digs, 13 kills, two aces, and one block, while Montoya had 14 digs and two aces. Those two aces gave Montoya a new career-high. Addie Parker was another key player, getting seven digs and seven assists.
We’ve got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Anahuac will face off against rival Buna at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, East Chambers is set to take on their familiar foe Kountze at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
