Jonah who was swallowed by a fish ends up mad at God because he did not destroy the Ninevites, the enemies of Israel plus God allowed the destruction of a plant that shaded Jonah. In chapter 4 God asks him, “Are you right to be angry about the plant?”. Anytime we get angry with God we are in the wrong. We might not understand why or may view it differently than God, but let us be humble enough to allow God to be God, beyond us, different from us, and always right. I see people that believe in God that somewhere they get mad and it ruins their attitude and their life. Beware! I read of a man who accepted Christ as a college student and his great desire was to have a girlfriend, so he prayed that God would send one. He picked out a girl he had a class with that he’d never met or spoke with. He told God to let him see her as he walked across campus one day if she was the “one”. Sure enough, he saw her and emboldened by this he reached out and asked her to go out with him but she turned him down. It embarrassed the guy and he was very hurt so he had thoughts that God had let him down. He considered giving up on God, but graciously God let him realize that he didn’t really ask God but told God what he wanted and what to do. God doesn’t have to obey us, we are to obey and follow Him.
