Teal Kraehnke, sophomore at East Chambers High School, came home with lots of ribbons and hardware from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) this week. Kraehnke and several other members of East Chambers FFA showed their animals in various categories at the HLSR which is the largest livestock exhibition in the world.

Kraehnke’s Brahman was first in class and reserve calf champion in the International Brahman Open Show. His heifer also came in first in class and calf champion in the Junior Heifer Show. Kraehnke’s steer was first in class in the scramble steer show and received third place overall scramble award.

Sisters, Rylee and Jenna Fitzgerald, also competed at the HLSR. Rylie is a freshman at ECHS and Jenna is a student in ECJH. Jenna competed in her first HLSR and placed second in her Red Brahman class. The Red Brahman was a homegrown heifer from a former show heifer of her older sister Rylee. Jenna placed fourth with the same heifer in the San Antonio Livestock show.

Rylee competed in her third HLSR and placed seventh in a very large grey Brahman class of 36. This is Rylee’s first year to ever place in the top ten at a major livestock show. Rylee placed in the top ten in San Antonio with the same heifer.

All FFA kids will now prepare to show their animals at the YMBL show in Beaumont and then the Chambers County Youth Project Show.
