Southeast Texas Legends: The NFL Journey of Tramain Thomas

  From Friday night dominance to coaching the next wave of talent, Tramain Thomas has built a legacy that still resonates across Southeast Texas.

  At East Chambers High School, Thomas was nothing short of electric. A two-way standout, he starred on offense and defense—earning All-State honors at safety while putting up eye-popping numbers in 2006 with 1,366 passing yards, 1,349 rushing yards, and 33 total touchdowns.

  His impact was historic.

  In 2007, Thomas became the first and only player in East Chambers history to win the Willie Ray Smith Award (Defense)—the highest honor in Southeast Texas high school football. His legacy was later cemented when the school retired his jersey in 2012.

  Thomas carried that momentum to the University of Arkansas, where he became one of the SEC’s top defensive backs. A four-year letterman, he earned All-America honors in 2011, finishing with 91 tackles and five interceptions. He was a two-time All-SEC selection, a Liberty Bowl MVP, and a three-time SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

  After signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and spending time in professional football, Thomas found his next calling—developing future stars.

  Now a defensive backs and safeties coach at Coastal Carolina, Thomas has quickly made an impact. His defenses have produced All-Americans, all-conference performers, and some of the nation’s top takeaway numbers, helping build aggressive, playmaking secondaries.

  And it all started back home.

  Thomas began his coaching career at East Chambers, giving back to the same program where he first made his name—coming full circle in a story defined by excellence, leadership, and legacy.
