East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers Walk It Off Against West Hardin

East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers took Tuesday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 9-8 walk-off victory over West Hardin at East Chambers HS. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run.

East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers rallied for the victory despite trailing 6-0 in the second.

West Hardin opened the scoring in the first after Shaylee Steele grounded out, scoring one run.

West Hardin scored five runs on one hit in the top of the second inning. La’Naiah` Barclay drew a walk, scoring one run, Adliegh Albritton drew a walk, scoring one run, Steele was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Cheyenne Steele doubled, scoring two runs.

East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Zoe Selby singled, scoring two runs, to give East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers the edge, 8-7.

Steele was struck by a pitch, which helped West Hardin tie the game at eight in the top of the seventh.

Rilynne Ortego earned the win for East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers. The hurler surrendered five hits and two runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking four. Destiney Deyoung stepped in the circle first for East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers. The hurler allowed one hit and six runs (five earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out six and walking six. Steele led things off in the circle for West Hardin. The pitcher gave up eight hits and nine runs (four earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking three.

Selby drove the middle of the lineup, leading East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Halleigh Hanna led East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers with two hits in three at bats.

Steele and Steele were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for West Hardin. Albritton collected two hits for West Hardin in four at bats. Kaylee Ellis paced West Hardin with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Barclay stole two bases.

 

East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers With Tough Game Against Buna

East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers couldn’t keep up with Buna and fell 16-4 on Tuesday at East Chambers HS.

Buna jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after an error scored one run, J. Johnson grounded out, scoring one run, M.Merkelz doubled, scoring two runs, H. Dubose doubled, scoring one run, and K.McGallion tripled, scoring two runs.

Buna added one run in the third after H. Dubose singled up the middle.

Rilynne Ortego took the loss for East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers. The pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits, striking out none and walking three. Destiney Deyoung began the game for East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and eight runs (one earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out none and walking six. K. Fea started in the circle for Buna. The starter allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking two.

Zoe Selby provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Leadoff hitter Kaydence Pinson led East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers with three hits in four at bats.

Buna amassed 14 hits in the game. H. Dubose provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Buna with seven runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 4-for-5 on the day. J. Johnson, K.McGallion, and M.Merkelz each collected multiple hits for Buna. K. Fea paced Buna with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Buna stole four bases in the game.

East Chambers Varsity Buccaneers welcome Hitchcock Varsity Bulldogs on Thursday for their next game.
